Plans are coming together for what developers say they’d like to do with the old Chase Bank property in Benton Harbor.
The three-and-a-half-acre site is situated right along on the St. Joseph River at 400 Riverview Drive.
Recall that when we first told you about the partnership’s acquisition of the property, the plan was to create mixed-use residential and commercial space. Now, developer and property partner Shane Franks says the partnership would like to add to what’s there right now, including building new, standalone buildings for a total of 72 residential units, an area for at least one restaurant, and a riverwalk.
Franks says it’s all part of creating an environment designed to bring more people to local establishments.
“We feel like even the transient boat slips, we want to use those for people who want to go to Babe’s (Lounge and Restaurant) or Bread Bar, or any other activities down there.”
The project team is planning to leverage Michigan Economic Development tax incentives and Franks says investing in the area is a no-brainer because it has such large growth potential.
The team plans to share preliminary drawings with the Benton Harbor City Commission soon.
Franks says the plan is for construction to begin and finish within a two-year window.
