A police National Night Out is planned for next Tuesday by the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. Director Dan McGinnis said this week National Night Out is held nationwide every year for police departments to mingle with the communities they serve. Benton Harbor’s seventh annual event will be at Dwight P Mitchell City Center Park with multiple first responder agencies.
“We’ve partnered with Benton Township,” McGinnis said. “So, what’s nice about our National Night Out is not only are we bringing citizens and the police together, we’re bringing the two police departments of the 49022 together with all of our citizens. So, it’s been a tremendous success.”
McGinnis says hundreds of people come out to meet police, see equipment demonstrations, and enjoy snacks that will include snow cones. The Benton Harbor National Night Out next Tuesday will run from 5 to 8 p.m. They’ll also have games, a book bag giveaway, and a dunk tank with McGinnis himself ready to plunge into the drink.
