Road construction workers will be continuing work on Bell Road in Niles Township tomorrow and Saturday for milling and repaving operations by the Berrien County Road Department resulting in road closures and detours those days.
The Berrien County Road Department says that the project, which began on June 1st, will continue on Bell Road between M-51 and Third Street.
The project, which includes curb replacement at the intersection of Bell Road and M-51, will also include a 2-inch HMA Overlay along Bell Road from M-51 to Third Street. Road milling and paving preparation will take place tomorrow, Friday, June 11th, and paving is anticipated to follow on Saturday, June 12th, however they note that dates are weather and contractor permitting.
There will be traffic restrictions both days with Bell Road being closed to thru traffic between Third Street and M-51, resulting in a detour as shown on the map included in this story.
For corner businesses with driveway access on Bell Road and M-51 in that neighborhood, Bell Road entrances will be blocked off for safety during construction, meaning that all access to those corner businesses should be from entrances off of M-51.
Road Department officials also ask everyone to remember to reduce speeds when traveling through the work zone, and watch for construction workers and equipment.
The detour for this project will run from M-51 to Fulkerson Road to Third Street as indicated on the map.
