Fast action and crystal clear surveillance video helped the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety to quickly resolve an armed robbery at a local cell phone store Monday afternoon.
Deputy Director Michael Clark says that right around 1pm his department was called to 957 Pipestone in the city after a man and a woman entered the store, approached the clerk and demanded cash from the store’s register.
The man was wielding a gun, and the Boost Mobile store clerk complied with the demands. The two them ran off on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.
Fortunately, the video surveillance system provided excellent footage which allowed authorities to immediately identify the two involved. A short while later the 37-year old man and his 17-year old female companion were arrested and taken into custody. The weapon has yet to be recovered, and the names of the robbers are being withheld pending their arraignment. They are currently being held in the Berrien County Jail on armed robbery charges.
Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety officers were assisted in the case by the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit.
