Apparently two guys who stopped off at a check cashing store this afternoon didn’t actually have a check to cash, they just wanted all the money. Benton Township Police are searching for two men wearing baggy clothes and wielding pepper spray who robbed the Check Into Cash location at 1357 Mall Drive just seconds before 2pm this afternoon, and they’d like your help in solving the crime.
Detective Lt. Brian Smit says that his department was called by employees who say that the two unidentified black men sprayed one of the clerks, demanding all the cash in the house. While the employee sustained irritation to the eyes and face, no medical treatment was sought.
The men departed the business on foot with an undetermined amount of money and as of 4:45pm had not been located. Nobody else was injured during the robbery which remains under investigation.
The Berrien County Sheriff Department K-9 unit assisted with a track but the suspects were not located. Lt. Smit is asking anyone with information to contact the Benton Township Police Department (269)925-1135 or Crime Stoppers (574)288-STOP. Both departments were also assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police.
