Armed & Dangerous BH Woman Subject of Police Search Following Shootings

Police in at least three local communities are asking the public to be on the lookout for a woman, considered to armed and dangerous, and believed to have been involved in several shooting incidents and an attempt to run over a person with her car.

Sgt. Tiefenbach of the Benton Township Police says that shortly after 4pm, his department and the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were both called out to the 1300 block of Union Avenue on the report of a disturbance with shots fired.

He says that upon arrival, multiple people reported that a woman in a silver Hyundai Elantra with an unknown out of state license plate, had attempted to hit one person with her car and then fired a shot at him. She reportedly had her 7-year old child in the car at the time.

The woman is identified as 25-year old Shinnarah Lashay Bailey, and was last seen following that incident headed north on Union in the silver car.

Less than ten minutes later, officers in St. Joseph Township were called out to the 1000 block of Marion Avenue on reports of shots fired there.

Those officers found a 59-year old Benton Harbor man who had been shot. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released at Spectrum Health Lakeland.

The man who was shot identified his attacker as Shinnarah Lashay Bailey from Benton Harbor.

As a result of the incidents, authorities throughout the region are asking everyone to consider Bailey to be armed and dangerous, and being told not to approach her, rather to contact the St. Joseph Township Police Department, the Benton Township Police Department or the Berrien County dispatcher to report where she can be found by police.

The shooting investigations are ongoing, and police say no further details will be released at this time.
