This month of April is Donate Life Month, bringing attention to how organ donation can be life-saving. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson came together with state lawmakers in Ann Arbor to introduce the Check Your Heart Act, which would allow a new schedule on the state’s income tax form for people wishing to become an organ donor when they file their taxes. Dorrie Dils is president and CEO of Gift of Life Michigan. She says organ donation can be as simple as saying yes.
“It really is very simple,” Dils said. “It’s simply saying yes either at the Secretary of State’s office, or they can do that currently through out website at GOLM.org.”
Dils says 2,400 people across the state are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Dils says it’s very simple to become an organ donor as you just have to say yes visiting the Secretary of State for a routine appointment like a driver’s license renewal.
