The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra is set to perform on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of Andrews University. Marc Elysee will conduct the Symphony Orchestra, which will play selections by Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn.
According to the Andrews University Office of University Communication, the concert will begin with Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture.” Beethoven wrote this music for a play written by German poet Goethe. The play portrays the sixteenth-century heroics of Count Egmont of the Netherlands, who defied a Spanish attack.
The next selection will be Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 5, KV 219.” Mailyn Iribar will perform as the violin soloist in the concerto sometimes called “Turkish,” because of the movements and shifts from A major to A minor. After a 15-minute intermission, the evening’s concert will conclude with Haydn’s “Symphony No. 101,” or “The Clock.” This piece is one of the Austrian composer’s twelve symphonies written while briefly residing in London, England, in the 1790s.
