Amtrak Train Collision Near Western Michigan University Kills Three

State Police have now identified those who died in last night’s train crash near Kalamazoo. They are 20 year old Jarmaine Brown, 19 year old Marcionna Edwards, and 18 year old Jordan Brooks, all from Kalamazoo. Here’s the original story:

Paw Paw State Police say that three people were killed when the vehicle they were riding in was hit by a Westbound Amtrak passenger train around 10pm last night. Authorities say they were dispatched to the scene just west of the Western Michigan University campus following word of the crash.

Sgt. Chris Hayward of the Paw Paw post says the car was headed north at the railroad crossing at 11th Street near KL Avenue in Oshtemo Township when the westbound train came through the crossing. All three people in the car were killed instantly, but nobody on the Amtrak train was injured in the crash.

Sgt. Hayward says the names of those who died in the crash are being withheld pending notification of their families. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation and no further details are being released at this time.

Several agencies assisted at the scene including the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department, Kalamazoo Public Safety, the Oshtemo Township Fire Department and Life EMS.
