Allegan General is joining the trend in healthcare mergers and collaborative agreements. The hospital has signed a definitive agreement to join Ascension Michigan effective this Sunday, September 1st.
Ascension and Allegan Healthcare Group, Inc., in Allegan will become one, with Ascension one of the nation’s leading non-profit and Catholic healthcare systems.
Dr. Tim Stover is Interim Ministry Market Executive at Ascension Michigan. He says, “The addition of Allegan General Hospital to Ascension Michigan will strengthen healthcare access and delivery for area residents and ensure the continued provision of high quality healthcare well into the future.” Stover adds, “Ascension Michigan looks forward to working closely with Allegan care providers to provide mission-inspired, best-practice care to those we are so privileged to serve across west Michigan.”
The independent, nonprofit Allegan Healthcare Group includes:
- The 25-bed Allegan General Hospital, a critical access hospital
- Allegan Professional Health Services, Inc.
- Allegan General Hospital Foundation.
The system has 16 employed physicians and an extensive array of ambulatory services across Allegan and Van Buren counties. Ascension Michigan includes Ascension Borgess in Kalamazoo, which is about 30 miles from Allegan. When Allegan joins Ascension, it will adopt the unified Ascension brand and identity, making it easier for those that Allegan General serves to connect to the national health system’s compassionate, personalized care. Ascension operates 15 hospitals across Michigan.
Gerald Barbini is President & CEO at Allegan General. He says, “With our values so closely aligned, we are excited to have reached this agreement with Ascension and look forward to working together to continue to provide exceptional care to our communities for generations to come.”
