All MDOT Roadside Parks in Michigan Slated to Reopen April 30th

If you have a favorite roadside park in Michigan operated by the Michigan Department of Transportation, look for it to return to service at the end of the month although drinking water and some other amenities might not be immediately available.

MDOT has announced this morning that all 85 of the state’s roadside parks are slated to reopen on Friday, April 30th for the spring and summer season.

The only one in the Tri-County region of Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties is the Jonas Roadside Park which features an artesian spring along M-140 near Watervliet.

MDOT maintains a total of 85 roadside parks and scenic turnouts around the state. Parks in the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula operate seasonally, usually closing in late October and reopening in the spring, while others in the state sometimes are open year round.

While parks are scheduled to be open April 30th, MDOT cautions that travelers should not expect drinking water at all parks to be turned on until sometime later in May, after annual testing and treatment of the park water systems is completed by authorities.

A map and complete list of MDOT roadside parks are available on the MDOT website at this link: https://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,4616,7-151-11151_11033_52552—,00.html
