After a Man Was Shot in the Head, Benton Twp Police Ask Public Help

Violence rained onto the Blossom Acres Housing complex in Benton Township again last night, leaving police scratching their heads and asking for the public’s help in tracking down the gunman who shot another man in the head during some sort of confrontation.

Benton Tonwship Police Detective Lt. Michael DenDooven says that just minutes after 8:30 last night, Tuesday, August 27th, officers from his department were dispatched to the 100 block of Concord Street regarding a shooting incident. Officers arrived and found a man suffering from a gun shot wound to the head and began administering first aid.

The man was taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland by Medic 1, where he was admitted and taken into surgery to help stem the damage.

Witnesses told police they heard several gun shots and saw a 2008 Dodge Caliber car that was driven by the injured man begin to roll away from from the scene, ultimately crashing into the curb in front of 160 Concord.

Benton Township Police say they have not located the shooter at this time, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Benton Township Police Department Detective Bureau at (269) 925-1135 or Crime Stoppers (574) 288-STOP.

DenDooven’s officers were assisted by the Benton Township Police Department Evidence Technician Unit, the Berrien County Sheriff Department Road Patrol, the Berrien County Sheriff Department Detective Bureau, Michigan State Police Post 53, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety and Medic 1.
