Advanced Family Eyecare: Preserving the One-on-One Dr./Patient Relationship

Sixteen years ago, Dr. Jeffery Scieszka, peered through the looking glass at the sector the health care industry that he had undertaken, and excelled at, and set his sights on the simple principle of preserving the one-on-one doctor/patient relationship that he felt was disappearing in a world of corporate and over-sized optometry and opthalmology practices in America.

Ever since that seminal year of 2004, Dr. Scieszka had dedicated his eyecare career to building the practice of Advanced Family Eyecare, PC on that platform of one to one service. He and his crew of 14 loyal employees and practitioners have focused on his interests in eyecare which are centered on family practice, pediatric, sports vision, contact lens specialty and difficult fits, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of ocular diseases and conditions such as dry eye, allergy, glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.

The person who nominated the Advanced Family Eyecare team for the Moody on the Market Fifteen Under 15 award opened with the testimonial statement that, “The one on one experience you receive is wonderful. They make you feel so welcome,” adding, “The best eyecare experience around. They truly care about their patients.”

Despite successfully growing his practice to four strategic locations in Michigan’s Great Southwest, Dr. Scieska’s practice is still very much down to earth and decidedly family-oriented.

You’ll find Advanced Family offerings at the headquarters location of 2810 Niles Road in St Joseph, a retail location at 222 State Street in downtown St. Joseph, at the Benton Harbor Intercare facility at 800 M-139, and in South Haven at 11282 M-140.

With the optometry world growing at a fast pace, Dr. Scieska is determined to keep the corporate franchise feel out of his office. While some places of that nature may offer cheap services, the loss of the personal one on one experience elsewhere keeps Advanced Family Eyecare at the top of their game, keeping the hometown eyecare experience alive and well.

In the world of fashion eyewear, you can find a great array of offerings from such brand names as Gucci, Oakley, Vera Bradley, Marc Jacobs, Maui Jim, Saks Fifth Avenue, Champion, Takumi, Ray Ban, John Varvatos, Converse and more.

The Advanced Family employees all work together to serve the community to the best of their ability, and they have an array of benefits including vacation, sick and personal time, flexible work scheduling, bonus money and training. They participate in many community charities, giving back to the community where they live.

Dr. Jeff Scieszka received his Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.) from the Michigan School of Optometry (MCO) at Ferris State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1994, where he also Received his Bachelor of Vision Science degree.

During the current pandemic, Advanced Family Eyecare has been very straight forward with their patient community, placing their health and safety at the top of their priorities. They have adjusted their hours at each location to provide staff adequate time to properly sanitize each site regularly.

At the time of publication, they were open and accepting new patients 4 days a week at the Niles Road location, the South Haven location, and in Benton Harbor, but had limited days at State Street retail site, only opening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

They are requiring all patients wear a mask at all times while in the office, and are limiting the number of people to the patient and one other person if the patient needs assistance or is a minor.

They even go so far as to ask that patients call upon arrival in the parking lot for appointments or service needs, sharing their appreciation with everyone’s patience as they work through the pandemic conditions.
