The Fourth of July travel weekend is expected to set a record this year. AAA of Michigan spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us travel in the state and nationally has recovered from COVID.
“We’re expecting more than 1.7 million Michigan residents to take a trip of at least 50 miles or more between Friday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 4, and that’s over 76,000 more holiday travels than the previous record, which was set last year,” Woodland said.
An estimated 50.7 million Americans are forecast to travel for the holiday weekend. That’s nearly 2.1 million more travelers than last year’s holiday and almost 1.8 million more than the previous high, set back in 2019. Woodland says the busiest period will be this Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you’re planning to drive, it’s best to avoid hitting the highway during those hours that day. She advises everyone to plan ahead and to pack patience.
