Bucking a multiple week trend of new record prices at the pump, Gas prices in Michigan are down 5 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $5.17 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 82 cents more than this time last month and $2.00 more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of more than $77 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline.
Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by 3 cents to $4.98 from a week ago. According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks fell by 700,000 bbl to 217.5 million bbl last week. Meanwhile, gasoline demand declined slightly from 9.2 million b/d to 9.09 million b/d. The slight drop in gas demand has helped to limit pump price increases. However, as crude oil prices remain volatile, the price per gallon for gasoline will likely remain elevated.
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased with a current average of $5.27 per gallon, about 3 cents less than last week’s average and $2.09 more than this same time last year.
