A 19-Yr Old Man Was Shot to Death in BH Last Night, Police Ask Help

Following a fatal shooting last night on the southeast side of the city, Benton Harbor Public Safety Officers are asking for the public’s help in identifying the gunman who killed a 19 year man there.

Deputy Director Michael Clark says that last night, Friday, April 10th, 2020 around 10:20pm, officers on patrol in Benton Harbor heard multiple gunshots in the southeast quadrant of the city. He says officers responded to the area and also while on route, received multiple 9-1- 1 calls.

Officers then located 19 year old Marcas Purnell, near the intersection of Cross Street and Bishop Avenue. Purnell, a resident of Benton Harbor, was wounded by gunfire and was unresponsive to attempts to revive him. Purnell was taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph where he later succumbed to those injuries.

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying those responsible for the death of Purnell.
