Where were you born?
Pittsburgh, PA
What was your first job?
My first job as a lawyer was as an Intellectual Property Counsel at Purdue Research Foundation’s Office of Technology Commercialization (I was the second attorney brought onboard and helped start a law firm of sorts which is now 8 practitioners strong).
Best advice you ever got?
Always persevere and fulfill (and try to exceed fulfilling) your obligations with integrity and dedication.
Who inspires you most?
My parents.
That one thing about you we’d be most surprised to learn.
I have a third-degree black belt in karate.
What do you love to do in your downtime?
I love to do needlework (particularly cross-stitching and embroidery).
What book are you reading now?
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
Volunteer activity you love the most.
It’s a tossup between my role as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Landslide Magazine and my role as co-Chair of the Business & Trade Division in the American Bar Association’s IP Law Section. I love these roles almost equally because of the vast opportunities (sometimes co-dependent) which I am able to create opportunities for others to shine and make their marks on our profession.
What motivates you to give back to your community?
Seeing my circle (which includes my mentees) uplifted and successful in whatever they set their minds to.
What Superpower would you most love to have? (for example, the ability to fly or to be invisible, or incredible strength, etc)
The ability to fly (fast), because this would help me to travel to many places in much shorter periods of time.
What would you like to leave behind as your legacy once you are gone?
I would like there to be an increased spirit and motivation to uplift others to help them become successful in their journeys, and be the best version of themselves they can be.
What does the honor of being named to the 40 Under 40 most mean to you?
This honor means a GREAT DEAL to me. To have my accomplishments and initiatives recognized as noteworthy by my community gives me optimistic hope that there will be more out there who will take my story and use the various chapters (so far) as examples of how they can live what I see as the moral of my story so far: Do your best in anything you set out to do, and in particular try to spread goodness and uplift others to become successful too. Genuinely helping someone else to become successful will never detract from your success along your own journey. This 40 Under 40 honor therefore invaluably helps me see that I’m doing something right, and will keep on doing it.
