The deadline to file to run for St. Joseph City Commission this year is coming up at the end of the month.
The city clerk’s office tells us there will be three city commission seats up for grabs in November, and the primary will be August 5, if needed. The seats currently occupied by Commissioners Michelle Binkley, Michael Sarola, and Michael Fernandez will be on the ballot. Binkley has opted not to run again, and so far, Sarola is the only candidate to have filed to run.
The clerk says the filing deadline for nominating petitions will be 4 p.m. on April 22. A candidate must have at least 25 signatures on their petition to run, or they can pay a fee of $100 instead of filing a nominating petition.
A primary will only be held if more than six candidates file to run for the three seats being filled with the November 4 election.
