
Benton Harbor’s Abonmarche Byce has announced that James Escamilla, PE and company vice president, has been awarded the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan’s Felix A. Anderson Image Award. The award is seen as a prestigious honor recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to enhancing the public image of the engineering profession.
In a statement from Abonmarche, they note with more than 40 years of experience, Escamilla has dedicated his career to advancing the engineering profession through innovation, mentorship, and public advocacy.
The company announcement said as the former President/CEO of Byce & Associates, Inc., Jim played a pivotal role in growing the firm’s reputation for excellence in engineering and leadership development. Following the 2023 merger of Byce & Associates with Abonmarche, Jim has continued to shape the industry by mentoring emerging engineers, promoting professional organizations, and advocating for engineers’ vital role in shaping communities.
The company also noted that Escamilla has served in leadership roles for ACEC/M, ASHRAE, CAMEE, and MSPE, guiding many young professionals into leadership positions within their communities and organizations. His advocacy efforts have helped elevate the public perception of engineering, highlighting its impact on quality of life and the importance of engineers as leaders and problem solvers.
