What some might see as a throwback to another era will play out once again later this month at Lake Michigan College, under the guidance of Berrien RESA, the area’s educational service agency.

The 2025 Cloverleaf Spelling Competition is open to Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties public and parochial school districts’ top three school spellers. The spellers earned their rankings in their school spelling contests earlier this school year. Students will compete for numerous cash prizes with the top prize being paid admission to the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C. in the spring.

The local competition happens Tuesday, February 25 at the LMC Mendel Center, starting at 8:30 AM and continuing until a winner is decided.

The event is sponsored by Berrien RESA, the Herald Palladium, Lake Michigan College and the Hagen Meemic Insurance Agency. Co-sponsors include Honor Credit Union, Pizza Hut of Michigan, the Sugarman Family, Encyclopedia Britannica, Hexco Academic and Merriam-Webster.
