United Way of Southwest Michigan (UWSM) is calling on passionate community members to bring their time, energy, and talents to either its Board of Directors, or one of its dedicated committees. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in driving the mission of improving lives in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.
According to a statement from United Way, “As a member of the Board or a Committee, you’ll have the chance to make a meaningful difference in your community, expand your network, and gain valuable leadership experience. You’ll help shape the strategies and initiatives that create lasting impact for residents across Southwest Michigan.”
“Applying to be part of our Board or a Committee is truly one of the best ways to understand all of the work being done in and around the community,” stated Gokul Nair, United Way of Southwest Michigan Board of Directors Vice Chair and CIO of KitchenAid Small Appliances. “Because of UWSM’s connections to 49 non-profit impact partners, and great funded programs like VITA Tax Preparation, this is an incredible opportunity to help the organization continue its mission to create a united & resilient community.”
Board Chair Tim Smith agreed. “I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have fresh perspectives and strong voices guiding our mission. United Way thrives because of leaders who care deeply about their community. This is a chance to make a real impact while working alongside others who are just as passionate about making a difference.”
Board member responsibilities include:
- Advocating for UWSM’s mission and programs
- Providing leadership through oversight, policy-setting, and promoting the organization
- Offering an annual financial gift to support UWSM’s vital work
- Attending six Board meetings annually, with terms beginning in March
Committees, which meet every other month opposite Board meeting months, focus on key areas like:
- Financial Health
- Governance of the organization
- Community Impact
- Resource Development
UWSM is looking for individuals who demonstrate accountability, integrity, and a passion for improving the lives of local residents. While prior Board or Committee experience is welcome, it’s not required. Applicants should bring skills and perspectives that complement our team and a commitment to serving the Southwest Michigan community.
Applications are due by January 28, 2025. Interested individuals can read the full qualifications and apply, at uwsm.org/board-committee-application.
