Michigan Works! urges employers to honor apprentices

National Apprenticeship week 2024 is November 17-23 and Michigan Works! wants to help YOU celebrate apprentices that have made a lasting impact in their industry.

This nationwide celebration provides Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren the opportunity to highlight how Registered Apprenticeship Programs can help address some of our nation’s most pressing workforce challenges. To celebrate this nationwide event, we are seeking five current or alumni apprentices that have been dedicated to their area of focus.

“Apprenticeships are more than a job. They center around hands on learning, employee mentorship and credential attainment,” said Mark O’Reilly, Director of Business Solutions at Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren. “We wanted to take this week to celebrate apprentices in southwest Michigan who are focused on turning their apprenticeship into a long-term sustainable career and established these awards to applaud their efforts.”

A strong award candidate:

  • Must be a current or alumni apprentice of a registered USDOL apprenticeship (proof is required)
  • Must work or live in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren County
  • Must be willing to submit a statement and a picture

Self-nominations for this award are both accepted and encouraged. Nominations with identical responses will not be accepted. Celebrate an Apprentice by nominating them here.

Nominations will be accepted until October 27, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Awardees will be selected by a panel of experienced workforce development professionals who specialize in registered apprenticeships. The five selected individuals will receive a certificate of recognition and be featured in national apprenticeship week communications, on social media, and on the Michigan Works! website.
