Bridgman, New Buffalo, and South Haven have all been awarded grants to install electric vehicle charging stations in their communities.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced this week more than $900,000 in EV charging station grants are being awarded to 17 communities to continue development of the multistate Lake Michigan Circuit initiative. That’s a multi-state plan to build electric vehicle infrastructure along Lake Michigan to support coastal tourism.
The city of Bridgman is receiving $135,000 for two fast charging stations, New Buffalo is receiving $20,000 to go toward two Level 2 chargers, and South Haven is receiving more than $260,000 for four fast charging stations and one Level 2 charger. The grants all come with local matches that vary per community.
EGLE Director Phil Roos says the Lake Michigan Circuit initiative is “an opportunity to offer the best new road trip for electric vehicle owners across the country.” Also part of the initiative are Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.
