The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has launched a trails survey to learn what lovers of the outdoors in Michigan think of its trails system and how they’re using it.
Michigan is home to more than 13,400 miles of state-designated trails that offer opportunities for biking, hiking, track-chair operating, paddling, horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding, and snowmobiling.
The DNR says its goal with the survey is to capture a picture of how residents and visitors use trails throughout Michigan and what their ideal trail experience looks and feels like. With the information, the department says it will better understand the needs and wants of trail users, which in turn will help guide new developments.
The Michigan Trails Experience Survey asks about the kinds of activities enjoyed on trails, conditions and amenities that make for a good trail experience, frequently visited trail regions in the state, and more.
Survey findings will be analyzed and shared with the Michigan Trails Advisory Council, and the survey will be up through August 1.
