The city of Coloma is getting closer to the new addition of a splash pad to Randall Park
The project, which was a result of the master plan adopted in 2021, has received several of donations, and city leaders are looking to have a groundbreaking later this year.
Coloma Mayor Marsha Hammond said the city is on track and hoping to unveil something this summer in July or August.
“It’s been quite a big dream, and the fact that we are pushing forward and making it a reality is wonderful,” Hammond said. “I think it will be quite an addition to the city of Coloma and Randall Park. This will just take it to the next level in helping us make Coloma a destination.”
Efforts to raise funds for the pad were announced last year in March, with a cost estimate of between $165,000 and $200,000. So far, $131,000 has been raised for the project, through donations as well as potential grant funding. In addition, the city has teamed up with the Somers family to support the splash pad and honor Norma by renaming the entity, the Norma Jean Somers splash pad.
As fundraising continues, the city of Coloma is making plans for a groundbreaking. For more information, visit cityofcoloma.org and search splash pad.
