The following cottages will be on display during the Cottage Walk.
- Summers on South In 2020, the owner undertook the renovation that would turn a traditional cottage into a fun cottage with magnificent views. The first thing you notice is the orange door – a nod to the owner’s love for the Cincinnati Bengals. Outside is a large deck overlooking the harbor. Once inside, you feel as though you are still outdoors as you gaze out of the two story wall of windows. The spacious open floor plan allows views from every corner. This 3-bedroom cottage is complete with an outside shower, built-in twin beds and panorama artwork of North Beach. Lake Michigan and North Beach are a few minutes away to complete the memorable summer experience.
- Reeser Cottage The homeowners built their beautiful home overlooking Lake Michigan after admiring the location for years. With the help of an architect and the homeowners’ creative eyes, this 5-bedroom home took shape. The hexagon windows provide views of the lake and beach that the homeowners desired. The couple spent their youth on the Jersey shore and incorporated features of the old cottages on Cape May into the design, such as the rounded decks and sunroom. Other features include the high window to view the night sky and the soft blue color of the walls, reflecting Lake Michigan. The creative homeowner’s glass artwork is displayed throughout, accompanied by favorite pieces acquired on vacation. Note the beautiful tile and stonework throughout and the envious walk-in closet.
- Sunset Bluff Built circa 1910, this historic cottage on Lake Michigan has been in the family since 1916. Originally built by a Chicago architect, Sunset Bluff is splendid. The magnificent wraparound porch immediately grabs the eye. The home is surrounded by landscaped gardens including a back deck and koi pond. Once inside, the homeowners have preserved architectural details including the plaster ceiling in the library, light fixtures, cabinetry, transom windows, beadboarding and inlay flooring. Bedrooms bear traces of children’s scribbles from the 1920’s. Antique china is found throughout. Wall treatments range from family portraits to wildlife photographs. The back of the 360-degree porch has been enclosed and the kitchen renovated to allow a lake view year round. Finally, there is a bird theme in the artwork and aviary.
- Farmhouse Cottage Step back in time to this adorable 1925 farmhouse cottage with a classic red barn. The family acquired their weekend retreat to spend more time with family in South Haven. The renovated cottage sits on 1/2 acre with a ravine full of wildlife. The cottage has a wraparound screened-in porch on which the owners live in the summer. The kitchen has the original sink and retro appliances. The beautifully decorated 2-bedroom cottage is complete with a patio, firepit and outdoor shower. The 1200 square foot barn dates to 1850 when the property was a horse farm. Stay awhile and stroll around the landscaped garden.
- Wheeler Cottage The homeowners purchased their two acre lot in 2023 and designed and built their dream home. On their checklist were high ceilings, tall doors, arched doorways, bedrooms on the main level, inset kitchen cabinets, a hidden pantry, and fireplaces throughout. A four-season room with plenty of windows overlooks the pool. Additional features include a spacious front porch, playhouse, theatre and billiard rooms, home gym, sauna, dog washing station, and custom-built bunk room. For their 5-bedroom home, the homeowners chose new furniture and warm design details. The pool house has a full kitchen and bath, and behind the pool house is a pickleball court! Outdoor living and entertaining opportunities include a patio, hot tub, putting green and firepit. The home is across the road from Pilgrim Haven Preserve.
