Krasl in final preparations for community celebration of artist Richard Hunt

A community celebration honoring the life and contributions of world-renowned artist Richard Hunt is just one week away.

The Krasl Art Center is organizing the event and invites the public to join the Benton Harbor community’s celebration of Hunt’s life and art.

Chicago-based sculptor Richard Hunt passed away in December of 2023. Krasl Art Center and its staff began their relationship with Hunt when he arrived in the community in 1995 to open a satellite studio in Benton Harbor. Krasl leaders note that the opening of his Studio Center was a critical seed to launching the Benton Harbor Arts District, a vibrant active area of the City of Benton Harbor downtown.

“As a member of the Benton Harbor community since 1995, the internationally renowned sculptor had many friends in this community. Because he believed in the arts as a critical component of civic life, Hunt made the decision to be part of a nascent arts district and to help foster a sense of place and belonging. After 28 years of creating in the space and rooted in this same belief, Hunt gifted his studio to Krasl Art Center with the request that it remain rooted in the arts and be an active, vibrant resource to the greater Benton Harbor Community.”

All are invited on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at the Richard Hunt Studio Center located at 258 Territorial Road, Benton Harbor.
