An organization with more than 38 years of offering help to young mothers in Southwest Michigan has opened a new location in Benton Harbor.
Known today as LifePlan, the Pregnancy Resource Center originally opened its doors in Niles in 1985 with a mission to provide young mothers in the community with resources that were otherwise missing. LifePlan provides services such as education for pregnancy, parenting, relationships, and fatherhood; limited ultrasounds; and student outreach at no cost to the participant.
In February of 2019, LifePlan opened their doors on a second location on Main Street in downtown Benton Harbor. However, by 2023 they had outgrown the space and began searching for a new location before finding and spending two months renovating their new location on Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor.
Opening their doors officially at their new location on October 30, 2023, LifePlan invites the community to their official ribbon cutting celebration on Wednesday, January 31 from11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to have the privilege of continuing to serve the community of Benton Harbor,” says Debbie Sobanski, Client Services Director for the Benton Harbor location. “Not only does our new office in Benton Harbor provide the space we need, but it is also in a more visible location while still being accessible to surrounding communities.”
“Adding this new space in Benton Harbor is one of many exciting expansions LifePlan is undergoing. Our reach continues to grow with a third location in South Bend, Indiana opening later this year,” adds Lyndon Azcuna, Executive Director for LifePlan. “In addition, we are very thankful for our volunteers and donors who provided the funds, materials, and labor necessary to make this all happen.”
