The Miss America competition is happening this week in Orlando, Florida and Southwest Michigan is taking great pride in our local representative, Miss Michigan Maya Schuhknect.
On Thursday, Schuhknect, a native of Buchanan and former Blossomtime Miss Congeniality, won the preliminary talent competition.
The Miss America competitors faced off in talent and Schuhknecht won for her speed painting demonstration. Schuhknecht was one of three to capture a $3,000 scholarship. She was joined by Miss Maine and Miss North Carolina, as preliminary talent winners.
The 2024 Miss America Finals Competition is set to take place on Sunday, January 14, at the Walt Disney Theater at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, Florida. The event can be streamed live at WatchMissAmerica.com.
