Fortress Manufacturing acquired by former Whirlpool strategist

Fortress Manufacturing of Benton Harbor has changed ownership. The new owner is former Whirlpool Corporation corporate strategy team member Andrew Petro.

Fortress Manufacturing at 2255 Pipestone Road in Benton Harbor is a specialized sheet metal fabricator focused on production components as well as small batch runs. The seven-employee company primarily serves clients in Michigan and throughout the Midwest.

New owner Andrew Petro purchased the operation from Fred Huff who has owned the company exclusively since 1998.

“One of the big things I worked with Fred on was maintaining the team. The team here is really what makes it all happen each day. It was important to Fred that he find somebody who keeps the business local and keeps the team he’s built in place. What he’s built over the last couple of decades is an excellent foundation to pick up and continue onward.”

Petro brings over a decade of experience in manufacturing and business development. At Whirlpool Corporation, Petro was most recently with the Corporate Strategy team. Prior to that, he spent a decade in Whirlpool’s Ohio, Mexico, and Massachusetts manufacturing facilities.

According to the company website, Fortress’s customers include General Electric, Herman Miller, Ausco, LECO, Whirlpool, Edgewater Automation, and TI Automotive.
