Set for October 1 is a multi-faith harvest celebration in Buchanan. Interfaith Action coordinator Sid Mohn tells us the group that represents around 40 organizations from around southwest Michigan will gather at Tabor Hill for music and reflection starting at 3 p.m.
“We’re holding the event both as a means of celebrating their richness of a Michigan harvest, and also pledging anew to work for environmental protection,” Mohn said.
The group will also honor migrant workers, who are key to the region’s harvest each year. Mohn says there will be music from the Andrews University choir, a cantor from a synagogue, an Islamic call to prayer, and a Sikh musical selection.
“It illustrates, I think, the delightful religious diversity and vibrancy here in southwest Michigan.”
Some awards will be given out. One will be given to the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission’s Marcy Hamilton for her efforts to keep local waterways clear. The other will go to Alicia and Carlos Sanchez, who work with migrants at Intercare. This is the third interfaith harvest celebration to be held by Interfaith Action. Mohn says the entire community is invited to attend. You can find out more right here.
