South Haven moving forward with Dyckman Park Winter Gathering Space

SHOUT for South Haven is celebrating the city of South Haven’s final approval of a new Wintertime Gathering Place in Dyckman Park. The city council has signed off on the construction contract for an outdoor fireplace at the park. Assistant City Manager Griffin Graham tells us they want to attract more people downtown in the winter.

“We’re excited to bring this additional amenity to the downtown to really supplement the other great features we have down there,” Graham said. “Notably, this feature was fundraised by the community to make it happen.”

Graham says SHOUT ran a fundraising campaign that attracted more than 100 donors, while a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has helped clear the $115,000 cost.

“We know where the feature itself is going to go with a walking path connecting the pavilion to the rest of downtown as well as some new benches and seating arrangements for the gathering space.”

Graham says construction is expected to start in September. The city is planning a ribbon cutting for before Thanksgiving. The fireplace and gathering space will be on the west side of the park.
