Pet food maker slated to move into St. Joseph facility

A pet food manufacturer could be coming to St. Joseph. At a Monday meeting, St. Joseph City Commissioners approved a 12-year tax abatement for property owned by Clark Logic at 211 Kerth Street. Cathy Tilley with Cornerstone Alliance told commissioners Clark will renovate the building and lease it to Blendco of Stevensville.

“I’m very excited about this since this building has been vacant for a couple of decades, and Clark Logic has come again to our community and purchased a building to renovate and make it a usable, functional building,” Tilley said.

Tilley said Blendco makes pet food and will bring production and storage to St. Joseph. Clark President Jamie Clark told us he’s glad to bring more business to St. Joseph.

“It’s southwest Michigan based, and we’re providing this building so they can expand their customer and distribution base, and potentially look at future manufacturing opportunities and production,” Clark said.

The Industrial Facilities Exemption approved Monday by commissioners will freeze the value of the building at its current $215,000 for 12 years. That will enable Clark to recoup its nearly $2 million investment in improvements to the facility. It’s been vacant since 2003. Clark says the renovations should be finished by the end of the year.
