Route released for Buchanan-Bridgman transmission line project

Indiana Michigan Power has announced the proposed power transmission line route for the Buchanan-Bridgman Transmission Line Project. This is a $62 million project to replace old power lines and poles with newer, more reliable, equipment. I&M spokesperson Tracy Warner tells us an open house on the project was held last fall, and I&M wants to hear the thoughts of residents.

“And that’s why we have these open houses, to get feedback,” Warner said. “Most of this line will be simply rebuilding exactly where the line is now. So, it’s pretty straightforward.”
I&M will install steel poles to replace old wooden ones that go back decades.

“A lot of these lines are 50 and 60 years old. We’re looking at the ones that are in most need of replacement and setting priorities.”
The project will involve the replacement of 20 miles of lines. They’ll mostly be run along the same route as they are now, with the exception of three miles. You can learn more about the project right here.

The Buchanan-Bridgman Transmission Project involves:

Building Bucktown Substation off Skyline Drive.

Building about 3 miles of transmission line from a structure near Broceus School Road to Buchanan South Substation off Railroad Street.

Rebuilding about 2 miles of transmission line from Buchanan South Substation to Jack Post Substation off East 3rd Street.

Rebuilding about 15 miles of transmission line from Bridgman Substation off Red Arrow Highway to an existing structure near Broceus School Road and Andrews Road.

Retiring about 2 miles of transmission line between the existing structure near Broceus Road and an existing structure off East 3rd Street.
