State Street Meats to Close Permanently This Week

State Street Meats in downtown St. Joseph is giving up on retail meat sales.  The store will stage a ‘closing sale’ tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday, then exit the retail segment of its business.

State Street Meats is co-owned with The Buck Burgers & Brew and will continue to function as an in-house butcher shop for The Buck.  A source said the front of the store would be rented for another retail purpose, while the back would be retained for the Buck’s internal operation.  Extensive meat processing facilities were added to the rear portion when State Street Meats opened.

Owner Ken Kozminski said the store is fully stocked for the closing sale and will make products available at drastically reduced prices, in appreciation for the customer support he’s enjoyed at State Street Meats since opening in the midst of the pandemic in 2020.

Kozminski was not immediately available for questions on the closure.  However, a source told MOTM that local meat buyers did not show up regularly during the Summer tourist season, due to perceived parking issues in downtown St. Joseph.

State Street Meats has been a full service and upscale  meat market, carrying top line cuts often not available in local super markets.  It also offered many ready to eat items aimed at the tourist market.
