Open house next week to examine I&M transmission line project in Berrien County

Indiana Michigan Power will hold an open house next week on the New Buffalo-Bridgman Transmission Line Rebuild Project planned for the coming years. I&M Spokesperson Schnee Doyle tells us the company will invest $51 million in rebuilding 21 miles of electrical line from New Buffalo to Bridgman and more.

“The goal of the project is to strengthen the local electric transmission system by replacing aging poles and wires,” Doyle said. “In fact, the current equipment that’s out there has been in place since the 1960s. Just like you would with upgrading your cell phone or your TV to the latest technology, that is essentially what we are doing.”

They’ll replace the old wooden poles with the big steel poles. Doyle says this work will not only go from Bridgman to New Buffalo, but also over to Three Oaks. I&M wants to hear the thoughts of affected residents, and its open house will be next Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Weko Beach House in Bridgman. Anyone can stop by at any time to speak with an I&M representative. Work on the transmission line project is expected to take place from 2024 to 2026.
