Berrien RESA is planning some celebrations for this month as students graduate from its programs. Superintendent Eric Hoppstock tells us graduation ceremonies will be held for the Math and Science Center, the Lighthouse Education Center and ASD Program, and the Blossomland Learning Center. He says it’s important to celebrate and honor students who have completed a difficult journey.
“Particularly from some of the special ed programming, these are kids that life has not always gone the way that they expected, and we have had an opportunity to help put their lives back together,” Hoppstock said. “So, graduation for these kids is a monumental occasion because given how some things have gone in their educational careers, there have probably been times where people said, ‘I don’t know if that kid is going to make it.'”
High school students in advanced math classes through the Math and Science Center will graduate tonight, Friday at 6:30 at Andrews University. The Lighthouse Education Center and ASD Program graduation will be May 26 at the center in St. Joseph, and the Blossomland Learning Center Graduation will be May 31 at the center in Berrien Springs. Hoppstock says the events are open to everyone.
