Rotary Track Meet tomorrow at St. Joseph High School

Set for Friday at St. Joseph High School is the Rotary Club of St. Joseph-Benton Harbor’s annual Rotary Track Meet. The Rotary’s Randy Bettich tells us this is the 65th year for the event, set to feature 15 track teams from schools around southwest Michigan.

“This is one of the largest high school outdoor track meets in the state of Michigan, and it’s an event that’s really anticipated by the area track runners because it allows the smaller schools to compete with the larger schools, like St. Joe, Lakeshore, and Niles.”

Bettich says the Rotary provides around 50 volunteers to help run the event each year. The top three teams will receive custom medals, and individual runners will receive scholarships. The preliminary events start at 4:30 p.m. while the finals start at 6. It’s $5 to get in for adults and $2 for students. The proceeds go to the Rotary Track Scholarship. Bettich says it’s always a great day to see the students so energized.
