Get your flies ready because it’s officially trout fishing season. Michigan Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist Christian LeSage says it’s also the start of walleye and northern pike season in the Lower Peninsula.
“The Lower Peninsula and the walleye and northern pike season also opens, and that season runs form April 29 to March 15,” Lasage said. “The Upper Peninsula walleye and pike season runs a little later. It starts May 15 and it goes through March 15. Then the Lower Peninsula, Great Lakes, Lake St. Clair, Saint Clair River, and Detroit River for walleye and northern pike, the season is open all year there.”
While you no longer need a special license to fish for trout, you must have your 2023 fishing license before heading out on the water. That can be purchased for $26 at Michigan.gov/DNR and click license information.
