The Michigan Maritime Museum’s signature ship, Friends Good Will, will set sail for Holland next week to be there for the Tulip Time Festival. The museum’s Claire Herhold tells us Friends Good Will has made the trip every year since 2018, expect in 2020. It will be docked behind Boatwerks Restaurant from May 6 through May 13.
“We give folks an opportunity to tour the ship who maybe haven’t been able to make it down to South Haven before,” Herhold said. “So, we come to you and you get a chance to go onboard the ship for a 15 to 20 minute tour with our crew and our captain. You’ll see everything above deck and below deck and get a great tour of the ship. It’s a great advertisement for us.”
Herhold says taking Friends Good Will to Holland is a good advertisement for the museum, prompting some who may not have heard of it to head to South Haven. Friends Good Will is a 2004-built replica of an 1811-built square topsail sloop. It usually takes about four hours for the ship to make the journey to Holland, and Herhold says it’s good practice for the crew.
