Benton Harbor Earth Day Celebration Coming to Hall Park

An Earth Day cleanup event is planned for Ox Creek in Benton Harbor this Saturday. The Southwest Michigan Planning Commission’s Marcy Hamilton told city commissioners this week the community is invited to the celebration at Hall Park from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be plenty to do.

“For the families and kids there’s going to be coloring books available, stickers about Ox Creek and keeping water clean,” Hamilton said. “One of our organizations is going to do a scavenger hunt with the kids. Sarett Nature Center will be there with live animals and doing geocache activities, bringing critters out of the creek to look at them.”

Hamilton said the Boys and Girls Club is decorating recycling containers, and there will be nature hikes, music, and special speakers like former Mayor Emma Hull. Several partners are teaming up to make the event possible, including the Berrien County Conservation District, Be Healthy Berrien, the Benton Harbor Community Development Corporation, and Abonmarche. Everyone is invited to attend.
