LMC names LaToya Mason new Health Sciences Dean

Lake Michigan College has named LaToya Mason as its new Dean, Health Sciences.

Mason, who served in an interim role after Marla Clark retired last year, has a long history with LMC. She has previously served as a part-time faculty member and, most recently, as LMC’s Director of Health Sciences.

In her new role, Mason will provide administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation of LMC’s Certified Nurse Aid (CNA), Medical Assisting, Nursing, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, Sonography, and Radiologic Technician programs, as well as the American Heart Association courses in CPR for both healthcare professionals and community members.

“LaToya is a thoughtful leader who challenges our students to succeed and our faculty to excel,” LMC President Dr. Trevor Kubatzke said. “She has built strong relationships with our community partners, which allows us to adapt to the shifting needs of the healthcare industry and the critical role of preparing students to serve in our community and beyond.”

Mason, a St. Joseph resident, earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration and master’s degrees in Health Administration/Education and Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.

She served as Veteran Benefits Specialist & Veteran Program Assistant with the Veterans Administration from 2008-2013. Mason joined LMC as Healthcare Education Director in June 2013 and as a part-time faculty member in 2014. She continued to teach at LMC while serving as the Medical Practice Manager at Lakeland Health. Mason was named the Director of Health Sciences at LMC in 2018 and has served as Interim Dean, Health Sciences since November 2022.

Mason is a doctoral student at Capella University School of Public Service & Education.

“I am excited to collaborate with our faculty and staff as we continue to offer the highest quality Health Science programs for our community,” Mason said. “As we forge ahead with the support of our community partners, we will continue to innovate and adapt to support the educational demands of our students and the ever-changing needs of the healthcare industry.”
