Effort underway to plan for wayfinding signs around St. Joseph

An initiative to put up wayfinding signs around St. Joseph is moving forward now that city planners have gotten public input. St. Joseph Assistant City Manager Emily Hackworth tells us the city is working with Corbin Design of Traverse City to develop signs that could be placed around town to direct visitors to key attractions. The consulting firm has been in town and is working on designs now.

“We started to show Corbin Design around the city of St. Joseph and talk to them about the city so they could get a feel for our community so that when they do their designs, they can design something tailor-made for the community,” Hackworth said. “It won’t be a generic sign.”

Hackworth says a meeting this month collected the thoughts of residents on what attractions to feature and how the signs should reflect the community. The program is being led by the Downtown Development Authority and is intended to guide people to downtown area attractions, but signs could be all over the city. Corbin will be back in town in June to present its designs.
