Part of Lions Park Drive, South State Street to be resurfaced

Part of Lions Park Drive and South State Street in St. Joseph will be resurfaced this year. City commissioners on Monday heard from City Engineer Tim Zebell, who told them Lions Park Drive from Elm Street to the entrance of Lions Park and South State Street from Main Street to Winchester Avenue will be milled and resurfaced.

“The project calls for this work to be completed in the off-season,” Zebell said. “So, that’s either between April 3 and May 26 or between September 11 and has to be done by November 10. Once they start work, there’s another stipulation that they have to be done within 15 days so they can’t string it out over that entire time.”

The city went with the lower of two bidders with a bid that came in below the expected cost. The work will cost $146,000. The work is not expected to interfere with the busy summer season. Commissioners approved the project.
