Lakeshore approves gym A/C upgrades, partial roof replacements

Additional improvements are coming to Lakeshore Public Schools ahead of a proposed $19.9 million bond set for the May ballot.

The Lakeshore School Board on Monday approved a $431,000 bid for to partially replace the roofs at the high school and middle school buildings, as well as a $197,307 bid to add a chilled water coil to the air unit in the main gymnasium to help keep it cool and control humidity.

Superintendent Greg Eding said costs for the projects will be covered by the school’s sinking fund. He also explained why this project was approved despite the district’s proposed bond that would facilitate roof replacements and HVAC upgrades.

“Through sinking funds, we tag money every year for regular replacement of roofs,” Eding said. ” We’re just moving forward as we normally would. We would actually be in a really hard place if for some reason the bond did not pass.”

The bond proposal would also cover:

  • Parking Lots, Drives, and Sidewalk Upgrades
  • Windows, Doors, and Metal Siding Upgrades
  • ADA and Code Compliance Upgrades
  • Heating Cooling and Ventilation Upgrades
  • Electrical and Fire Alarm Upgrades
  • Classroom Furnishing & Equipment Upgrades
  • Instructional Technology Upgrades
