Southwest Airlines CEO Apologizes For Flight Delays, Cancellations

Some travelers at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids and Metro Airport outside Detroit are having to change plans due to flight cancellations. Flight Aware says are were more than 30 cancellations and delays today, with most being Southwest Airlines flights. In a video statement, Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said he was sorry for cancelled flights.

“With our large fleet of airplanes and flight crews out of position in dozens of locations, and after days of trying to operate as much of our full schedule across the busy holiday weekend, we reached a decision point to significantly reduce our flying to catch up.”

The U.S. Transportation Department will investigate why Southwest has lagged behind other airlines.
