Lake Michigan College seeks Spirit of MLK Spotlight nominees

Lake Michigan College and the MLK Celebration Committee are seeking nominations for its 2023 Spirit of MLK Spotlight honors, which recognize those who embody the love and spirit exemplified by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Recipients of the Spirit of MLK Spotlight will be recognized during the community wide MLK Celebration Week, scheduled for Jan. 14-20, 2023.

Nominees are accepted in three categories – Students (any age – 21 and younger), Individuals, and Organizations.

Nominees should meet the following criteria:

Does meaningful work that embodies love and the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, exemplified by Martin Luther King Jr.
The organization or individual must be actively involved in work that advances or promotes racial and social justice in a substantive way.
The work must directly impact community members in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren counties.
Self-nominations are permitted. Multiple nominations also are accepted. All nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The MLK Celebration Week 2023 will feature in-person and virtual events, including artistic reflections, performances, round table discussions, speakers, and more, under the theme, “Keep Moving Forward.” More details of MLK Celebration Week 2023 will be forthcoming.
