Buchanan buys old Baroda Tire property; plans ‘southern gateway’ redevelopment

Buchanan city officials are looking to revitalize an industrial area at its southern border after closing on the purchase of the former Baroda Tire property, 708 S. Redbud Trail, on Monday.

As part of the revitalization, officials said the city will demolish the older structure on the property, as well as the “Old Feed Mill” on the adjacent property at 111 Railroad Street.

The two adjoining properties are located in a prime position on an important and strategic commercial corridor which serves as the main Gateway for many who visit Buchanan from the Chicago area, said the city in a press release.

After the demolitions of the obsolete structures, the city will make the properties, which equal nearly four acres of land, available for redevelopment.

“The Buchanan City Commission is looking forward to a new chapter of revitalization and it is now making strategic and bold moves towards that implementation,” said Community Development Director Richard Murphy, of the acquisition. “It takes time, but we are making progress on these redevelopment assets that we feel will be attractive to the market, create jobs, and build up the tax base in Buchanan.”
