Van Buren Conservation District invites public to free picnic, annual meeting

Residents will have an opportunity to enjoy a free picnic July 27 at the Van Buren Conservation District’s annual meeting, hosted by the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery in Mattawan.

Deputy Administrator Emilly Hickmott said they are excited to be hosted by the fish hatchery, which is one of only six state hatchery facilities and features more than two miles of walking trails.

“It will be a good time,” said Hickmott, adding the event is also a great opportunity to learn more about the organizations’ mission. “Quite simply, the mission of the Van Buren Conservation District is to promote the conservation of natural resources.”

The program starts at 5 p.m. and there is an optional tour of the fish hatchery available at 4:30 p.m. The event also will include updates on district programs, award presentations and an election of a new director.

The organization is asking guests to RSVP by July 20 by calling 269-633-9054 or filling out the form online at vanburencd.org/annual-meeting-2022.
