Peat’s Cider Wins ‘Best in Class’ in International Competition

Southwest Michigan hard cider manufacturer, Peat’s Original Cider, has announced a Best in Class Award for their hopped cider, The Knave: Zappa at The 16th Annual Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP).

Cider entries are evaluated on everything from taste and color to how true the cider submission is to the category of which it’s being judged. Judges hail from places as close as Grand Rapids and as far as Japan, bringing with them a deep expertise and expansive palate. With over 1,350 entries overall, 34 of which were in the Hopped Cider Category, Peat’s Original Cider took home Best in Class in the hopped cider category for its cider The Knave: Zappa.

“This is our first ever Best in Class Award and it is a true testament to the creativity and care that our head of production, Eddie Hengesh, puts into every flavor he innovates,” said Dan Peat, CEO and Co-Founder of both Peat’s Original Cider and the Peat’s Cider Social.

Other 2022 GLINTCAP awards for Peat’s Original Cider include:

SILVER: The Apothecary

Strawberry and hibiscus rosé cider

Category: Specialty Cider and Perry

SILVER: The Evergreen Overcoat

Cider aged on spruce tips

Category: Botanical Cider

BRONZE: The Professor

Sweet and juicy red plum cider

Category: Fruit Cider

Hengesh is currently working on the next iteration of The Knave and commented:

“The Knave has always been one of my favorite ciders here at Peat’s and to be recognized as best in class at the largest cider competition in the world makes me very proud,”   He continued, “The last few kegs of Zappa are quickly running out, but we have a fresh new batch coming hot on its tail. This iteration showcases Australian Galaxy and Michigan Cashmere hops, and I think it’s out of this world.”

“We will also be releasing a new variety that we previewed at the Makers Trail Festival.

The Pit Stop was inspired by breezy summer days sitting on the porch with a glass of sweet tea and nights spent around the fire pit. Packed with ripe apricot, relaxing chamomile flowers, and a hint of cardamom spice, it’s a great sunny sipper. We will have more summer favorites hitting the taps soon, so you’ll have to keep your eye on The Social,” Hengesh added.

In addition to award winning, locally-crafted hard cider, The Peat’s Cider Social offers a nostalgic space complete with bowling and arcade games, making it ideal for team building events, social gatherings, birthday parties and more.   Email events@peatscider.com.
